Glass engraving in Vienna — matt, elegant, permanent

On glass, an engraving is at its best: the engraved area turns a frosted matt white and catches the light — subtle in daily use, unmistakable once you pick the glass up. Wine and beer glasses, bottles, carafes and vases, engraved without an appointment, usually in 5 to 15 minutes. Including the glass you bring yourself.

What we engrave on glass

Anything with a suitable glass surface — from our own range or brought by you. What matters is not the object but the size: height or diameter up to 15 cm.

Your item is not on the list? Send us a photo on WhatsApp — we will look at it and tell you what is possible.

How a laser engraving on glass looks

In short: the engraving is not a print, it is the glass itself. That is why it lasts as long as the glass does.

  • Frosted matt white

The laser removes a very thin layer from the surface. The engraved area turns matt white and stands out like a fine etch against the clear glass.

  • Dishwasher safe

No paint is applied that could come off. An engraved glass can be used every day and washed normally.

  • Curved surfaces too

Glasses, bottles and carafes are engraved along their curve. A rounded object is routine for us, not a special case.

  • Only height matters

Height or diameter up to 15 cm, engraving area 20 × 20 cm per pass. Larger designs are combined from several passes.

Because the engraving sits in the surface of the glass, it cannot flake, scratch off or fade. An engraved glass stays an everyday object rather than becoming a display piece — and that is exactly what makes it a strong gift.

Short, clear content works best: two names with a date, a monogram, one line of dedication, a club crest. On glass, restraint wins. We show you how the lettering and size will look on your glass before the laser runs.

Crystal, coloured and very thin-walled glass all behave differently. That is why we look at every glass you bring beforehand and tell you what to expect. If you want certainty in advance, send us a photo on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions about glass engraving

Can you engrave glass in Vienna?

Yes. Glass is one of the best materials for laser engraving: the engraved area turns a frosted matt white and stands out elegantly against the clear glass. At sofortgravur.at, Josefstädter Straße 58, 1080 Vienna, this is done without an appointment, usually in 5 to 15 minutes.

How does laser engraving on glass work?

A focused laser beam removes a very thin layer from the surface of the glass. This creates a matt white marking within the glass itself, comparable to a fine etch. Because nothing is applied on top, the engraving is permanent and can be felt with your finger.

Is an engraving on glass dishwasher safe?

Yes, a laser engraving on glass is dishwasher safe. No paint or coating is applied — the glass surface itself is frosted, so there is nothing that could peel off or fade. Engraved glasses can be used every day.

What kind of glass items can you engrave?

Wine glasses, beer glasses, whisky and gin glasses, champagne flutes, shot glasses, bottles, carafes, vases, perfume flacons and glass trophies — from our own range as well as glasses you bring yourself. The height or diameter may be up to 15 cm.

Can I bring my own glass to be engraved?

Yes, absolutely. Bring your glass to Josefstädter Straße 58, 1080 Vienna during opening hours — no appointment needed. We look at it together and in most cases engrave it straight away, so you can take it with you.

Can you engrave crystal or lead crystal?

Crystal glass can generally be engraved and its high gloss produces a particularly strong contrast. Because composition and wall thickness vary, we look at every piece of crystal beforehand and tell you what to expect before anything is engraved.

Does engraving work on coloured or frosted glass?

Yes. On coloured glass the contrast is especially strong, because the engraved area appears lighter than the surrounding glass. How pronounced it turns out depends on the colour and the surface — send us a photo on WhatsApp if you are unsure.

Does the engraving hold on thin-walled glass?

We look at every glass before engraving and adapt the design, size and placement to it. With very thin-walled glass we talk you through it openly before we begin. Nothing is engraved until you agree.

How much does glass engraving cost in Vienna?

At sofortgravur.at in 1080 Vienna most single engravings on glass cost between 20 and 25 euros as a flat price — regardless of how long the text is. Series, for example glasses for a wedding or a company anniversary, start at 2.50 euros per piece by arrangement. Logos and photo engravings cost more; we quote the final price before we start.

How long does a glass engraving take?

The engraving itself usually takes less than five minutes. Including advice and layout you are normally done within 5 to 15 minutes and take your glass with you. For larger series we agree on a pickup date.

Is your glass waiting?

Bring it in — usually engraved in 5 to 15 minutes. Or send us a photo first.
