What works on metal — and what we tell you honestly
Most jewellery and metal pieces we engrave on the spot. For a few cases another address is the better one.
Fine, sharp lines
On metal, very fine lettering and detailed designs come out cleanly — exactly what small surfaces like a watch case back need.
Stays where it is
The engraving sits in the surface, not on it. It survives daily wear, cleaning and years in a trouser pocket.
Heirlooms welcome
Your grandfather's watch, the bracelet from a holiday, the family pendant: these are the pieces that carry the finest engravings.
Checked in advance
Send us a photo on WhatsApp before you make the trip. You get a clear answer on whether and how we can engrave your piece.
Our strength is jewellery and metal pieces with an engravable surface: pendants, bracelets and bangles, watch case backs, cufflinks, hip flasks, lighters and pocket knives. We engrave those on the spot and cleanly, with advice on lettering, size and placement.
And the honest part: with very fine work such as an inside-ring engraving on a narrow band, a lot depends on shape and material — sometimes a specialist jeweller is simply the better address. We would rather tell you that beforehand than afterwards.
Coated, lacquered and gold-plated surfaces all behave differently. That is why we look at every piece you bring beforehand, talk through what to expect, and engrave only once you agree.

„Hab ein Schneidebrett gravieren lassen und bin wirklich begeistert vom Ergebnis. Die Gravur war innerhalb von etwa 10 Minuten fertig – richtig top, vor allem weil mir andere Anbieter eine Wartezeit von 2–3 Wochen genannt hatten. Die Beratung war super freundlich und kompetent, und man hat sofort gemerkt, dass der Herr seinen Job mit Leidenschaft macht.“

Frequently asked questions about jewellery engraving
Can I have jewellery engraved at your shop?
Yes. Pendants, bracelets, watches, cufflinks, hip flasks, lighters and pocket knives are engraved directly in our shop at Josefstädter Straße 58, 1080 Vienna — including jewellery you bring yourself, and without an appointment.
Can you engrave the inside of a ring?
Whether an inside-ring engraving is possible depends strongly on the shape, width and material of the ring. Send us a photo on WhatsApp beforehand — we will tell you honestly whether your ring is in good hands with us or whether a specialist jeweller is the better choice.
Can I have a watch engraved?
Yes, watches are among our typical items. Usually the case back is engraved, for example with initials, a date or a short dedication. Simply bring the watch to 1080 Vienna — no appointment needed.
What do people engrave on jewellery?
Most often initials, names, a date or the coordinates of a special place. On watch case backs and larger pendants a short dedication works nicely too. We help you with lettering, size and placement in person.
Can you engrave a photo onto a pendant?
Yes, photo engravings on pendants and keyrings are among our most frequent jobs. The image is transferred in greyscale; the clearer the original, the more detail survives. Photo engravings cost more than a plain text engraving — send us your file beforehand and we will quote the price in advance.
How much does jewellery engraving cost in Vienna?
At sofortgravur.at in 1080 Vienna most single engravings cost between 20 and 25 euros as a flat price, regardless of the number of characters. Small engravings on pendants or keyrings are often at the lower end. You get a firm quote before we start — it never gets more expensive without you knowing first.
How long does a jewellery engraving take?
The engraving itself usually takes less than five minutes. Including advice and layout you are normally done within 5 to 15 minutes and take your piece with you.
Can I have an heirloom engraved?
Yes, and it is routine for us. Because the material and surface of older pieces are often unknown, we look at the item together and discuss openly what to expect. Nothing is engraved until you know where you stand and agree.
Do you engrave coated or gold-plated metal?
Coated, lacquered and gold-plated surfaces behave differently, so we check such pieces in advance. Send us a photo on WhatsApp or bring the item in — you get a clear answer before anything happens.
